Why we started

This didn't start with a business plan. It started with a neighbour.

Furry Family Essentials wasn't born in a boardroom. It was born on a quiet street, in a conversation that stayed with me long after I'd walked away.

The spark

My neighbour Andrew has been blind since the day he was born.

Before Covid, his guide dog was retired — the usual thing, a well-earned rest after years of loyal work. Andrew joined the waiting list for a new one, and he waited. And waited. And waited some more.

One day he told me, with a sad little laugh that I'll never forget:

"Forget it. I'll probably die before they give me another one."

That sentence sat in my chest for weeks. It's one thing to read a statistic about guide-dog waiting lists. It's something else entirely to hear a man you know — a man who'd spent his whole life being fiercely independent — quietly give up hope.

The decision

I could've written a cheque. I wanted to do something that lasted.

I could have donated to a big charity and moved on. But I kept thinking about independent guide dog trainers — small, scrappy organisations doing incredible work on tiny budgets, without the marketing teams and overheads eating into every pound. The people quietly changing lives on the margins.

So in October, I decided to build something that could keep giving — month after month, order after order. Not a charity. A real business, with real products that people genuinely want, funding real change with every bottle.

The products

Made with love. Made in the UK. Made for pets who deserve better.

I refused to cut corners. If I was going to ask people to buy something, it had to be something I'd happily put on my own animals first.

The promise

5% of every sale. Direct to independent trainers. Always.

Not "a portion of profits" with vague small print. Not "in partnership with" a giant logo you've seen a hundred times. A straightforward 5% of every order, paid quarterly, directly to independent UK guide dog trainers — with donation reports published openly for anyone to see.

It's the whole reason this brand exists. It's the whole reason I'm still awake at 11pm after a long shift, packing boxes and answering emails. Every bottle is a small step toward somebody else getting the companion they've been waiting for.
